PREPARING STUDENTS FOR THE FUTURE
The Economist Intelligence Unit (EUI) recently conducted a survey to determine if the skills being taught in educational systems around the world, matched the skills employers identified as key. The findings were presented on Google’s international education forum Education on Air.
The survey identified Problem Solving, Teamwork and Communication to be the top skills needed in today’s changing workplace.
Business survey: “Which of the following would you say are the most critical skills for employees in your organisation to possess today? Select up to three.”

KEY FACTORS STUDENTS NEED TO CONSIDER WHEN PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE:
The world of work is changing, and with it the skills needed to be successful. Unfortunately, most of our educational systems do not yet support these changing trends. Students therefore need to look outside of the traditional educational system to find opportunities to develop these skills. Information is now available at our fingertips through search engines such as Google, and memorizing facts and figures is no longer relevant. What matters most is:
- Interpreting information
- applying information to effectively and creatively problem solve
- finding and gathering relevant information
- communicating ideas effectively
